The Wilderhaven Project, Incorporated was established in 2004 with the goal of building families and rescuing children. The Project plans to build and operate a Group Foster Home and other facilities when funding is available. There is a great need for foster care facilities, especially in Texas. But foster care is a last option, a last-chance response to problems that began far earlier. Battered children come from broken homes. Foster Care and Crisis Management are bandaids, not cures. Families are continously battered by a society that is itself suffering from many afflictions. Unless the underlying problems of our society are addressed and eliminated homes will continue to crumble, children will suffer, families will disintegrate.

The Wilderhaven Project hopes to find creative ways to eliminate the problems at their root, before a family reaches a crisis and a child must be removed from a home. It may not be possible to put the foster care system out of business but we hope that through our efforts there will be far less need for foster homes. We'd prefer that our efforts be focused on building families rather than building facilities. That is why the Project has expanded its goals and outreach.

The Board of Directors of The Wilderhaven Project, Incorporated, has authorized the development of programs in several specific areas as listed below. These areas represent what we feel are the most important elements that need addressing to restore our society and families in America. We ask you to join us as we work to build a better future for all, one family at a time.

Family Service
	The word "Family" doesn't mean what it used to. Fewer and fewer Americans live in "traditional" families consisting of a two-parent household with a few children belonging to both parents. The family structure has crumbled. Households have parents, single-parents, step-parents, children, step-children and/or adopted children. Relationships are complex. Loyalties are split and shattered. Add to these complications the pressures of work, school, and society and families find survival more and more difficult. The Wilderhaven Project, Incorporated through family service programs will bring peace, acceptance, and understanding to families, teach them how to cope, and help them adjust and deal with whatever situation exists within their household.
Non-violence and dispute resolution
	Families and households in America suffer violence in many ways. Ours is a violent society that feeds on violence. We believe strongly in the principal of non-violence. We preach and practice non-violence in all we say and do. We offer non-violent solutions to conflict, encourage families to work together, be respectful and forgiving, and learn how to love one another. Our focus is one of resolution rather than retribution, giving rather than taking, surrendering rather than demanding. There are always answers but many times they cannot be realized or accepted without a willingness to compromise. We believe when families learn to resolve differences peacefully everyone wins.
Child abuse prevention
	Child abuse, as we've said repeatedly, is a symptom of a broken family. We're working to develop programs to build families and provide solutions that will prevent abuse by eliminating the circumstances that lead to abuse. Families that know how to work together, live in peace, overcome financial and social pressures rarely have a problem with abuse.
Community Service
	America has losts its sense of community. The word "neighbor" has no meaning any longer. How many of your neighbors do you know, even by name? Whether you live in an appartment complex, on a farm or in a Suburban home, your community is important. The Wilderhaven Project, Incorporated is dedicated to promoting community. We're exploring ways to bring communities together and supporting organizations and efforts to build community. Strong communities help maintain strong families.

Thes are a few of the things The Wilderhaven Project, Incorporated hopes to accomplish. We do not take our responsibilities lightly nor will we be slothful in our efforts.
